When I first began this blog, I was a young newlywed housewife who had stumbled through more health problems than most 70+ year olds I knew. I had dreams of my crazy story reaching even just one wife/mom. I wanted to inspire, empathize with and encourage her. I wanted to share interests, victories and failures, and I wanted to share good information and good food.
Now 2017 is here, and I have new goals. I still want to reach that mom and wife, but I want to reach many of you. I want to inspire you to be the change you want to see in your families. You CAN have a healthy pregnancy and birth. You CAN serve your family real food, that tastes good, on a budget. You CAN be an informed parent, a mama who takes care of her children with real information rather than swimming with the tide of ignorance. You CAN turn your house into a home with simple, loving, inexpensive techniques.
I want to inspire you to be wives and moms that God designed you to be, and most of all, I want to share resources to help you also take hold of the things you can control (even if you don’t believe it yet), most importantly the health of your households. You have two choices. You can create an atmosphere for growth and joy and health, or you can allow stagnancy, discontentment, and the ‘normalcy’ of sickness, allergies, and asthma to be the story your family writes.
We have seen the goodness that real food, real nutrition, can create. My health journey is a crazy one. In a nutshell, I spent my childhood, adolescence and young adulthood sick. Childhood consisted of ibuprofen, tylenol, artificial foods like blue bonnet “butter”, kraft mac n cheese, canned vegetables from the store, Crisco, boxed, sugary cereals, boxed or frozen pre-made meals, mountains of candy for the holidays, homemade triple iced cinnamon rolls, and never-tested well water that was located feet away and downhill from a GMO field of corn and soy that was sprayed numerous times a year. Adolescence, I battled self acceptance and was at one point 40 pounds overweight, and, you guessed it, always sick. Young adulthood brought a career at a doctors office, where I had access to a kindly old medical professional who did what he knew to get me better – antibiotics (oral and injection) for sicknesses and UTIs, and then daily antihistamines for sinus infections/allergies. I only got worse. I exhausted the medical field, before finally being led to alternative medicine. Nutrition, real food supplements, chiropractic adjustments and homeopathy gave me my life. I would say back, but I never really knew health before. After 3 years of marriage and 2 years of intense focus on rebuilding my health, Hubby and I were able to conceive (and carry to 41 weeks, 3 days!) our healthy baby boy. He never ceases to amaze us, starting with how alert he was at birth (the health of his placenta impressed our midwife!), how strong he is, and how quickly he picks up on things. The giggles, smiles, playfulness and baby hugs are a level of awesomeness we’ve never experienced before, but are so thankful for. 🙂 You can read more about my life and family here.
I hope that my story will inspire you to take your own health journey. I hope it will inspire you to change your life, and the lives of your loved ones, for the better. I grew up thinking there really wasn’t a good answer as to why some people live vibrant, exciting, pain and symptom free lives, while others have to stumble from day to day wishing for the fatigue, aches, asthma, allergies, sinus infections, digestive issues and other miserable things to let up, even just a little. Over the last five years I’ve realized, IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE THAT WAY.
“For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
I’m no preacher of the prosperity gospel, but I strongly believe God didn’t design us to be sick, overweight, depressed and exhausted. He gave us resources, He gave us amazing bodies that know how to heal themselves, given the correct tools. He gave us real, unadulterated food and nutrients. He made us capable of living healthy, drug-free lives. We have to choose it.
Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. It is possible to feel good, to be healthy, to live life excited. It is possible. Take this journey with me. I can’t promise it’ll be easy, anything worthwhile never is, but I can promise it’ll be worth it. So very worth it. <3
